The newly created BC Conservation & Biodiversity Awards Foundation endowment is currently in excess of $2 million. This endowment will enable award winners to receive over $75,000 annually.

Vancouver, BC (January 26, 2021)-The BC Conservation & Biodiversity Awards will go to the most impactful initiatives brought forward by BC based non-profit organizations, individuals or groups of individuals, for specific work contributing to the improvement of the natural environment of BC and the preservation of its wilderness and biodiversity. The areas of focus are land and ocean based initiatives, clean air and water initiatives, climate change initiatives, and academic and science based studies targeting the environment and preservation of BC’s wilderness and biodiversity.

According to Imagine Canada, charitable contributions are heavily skewed to the humanities relative to the environment, with only 2% of all donations going to the environment. Yet without the environment we have no humanity. The BCCB Awards are one small step toward addressing this imbalance.

The Awards are uniquely initiated through purely grass roots private philanthropy. As the endowment increases in size through future donations, future awards will also be increased.
Award applications are accepted throughout the calendar year to December 31st, with the annual award winners then chosen by a Selection Committee and announced on March 1st of the following year. The Selection Committee is currently comprised of The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Sierra Club of BC, the Wilderness Committee, The Nature Trust of BC, The Faculty of Environment, Simon Fraser University and The Faculty of Environment, University of Northern BC.

The BCCB Awards Foundation is a donor advised fund at Canada Gives, a registered charity and public foundation. Canada Gives manages the administration and reporting for the BCCB Awards Foundation and issues the grants (awards) once the recipient(s) has been chosen and approved.
