The BC Conservation & Biodiversity Awards Foundation was established in 2020 to recognize and financially support conservation based initiatives in the Province of British Columbia. The awards are given annually for the most impactful initiatives brought forward by BC based charities, for specific work contributing to the improvement of the natural environment of BC and the preservation of its wilderness and biodiversity.

“The BC Conservation and Biodiversity Awards empower Individuals and groups to pursue opportunities for protecting habitats, and recognition by this provincial foundation helps inspire and encourage local donors to support conservation initiatives. I really appreciate the philosophy of the Foundation, and the straightforward, user-friendly grant process. Requiring short, concise answers to a few key questions made the application simple, painless and quite quick to complete. And receiving an Award gave our fundraising efforts a real boost. Thank you!!”

CUSHEON CREEK PROJECT | AWARD RECIPIENT
“This award will support the Environmental Youth Alliance with Strathcona Community Gardens to engage youth facing systemic barriers and local residents to develop an urban wetland on a flood-prone corner of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. The project will enhance biodiversity, freshwater management and climate adaptation in a highly-paved neighbourhood with little natural infrastructure to cope with increasingly extreme weather events. Through the development of a wetland ecosystem youth and local residents will gain skills in habitat conservation, while enhancing access to biodiverse greenspace in the neighbourhood.”

ENVIRONMENTAL YOUTH ALLIANCE | AWARD RECIPIENT
“The support we have received from the BC Conservation and Biodiversity Awards has been instrumental in starting our most recent environmental project. Year one of our three-year project takes a whole community approach to conserving and restoring the health of Lake Windermere. We will focus on water monitoring, ecosystem restoration and enhancement for climate resilience, and community stewardship. We greatly appreciate BCCBA’s support on this project and the straightforward application process they use.”

LAKE WINDERMERE AMBASSADORS | AWARD RECIPIENT
“Our efforts to afford black bears with legislated protection (with specific reference to den protection) through amendments to the Wildlife Act—is very much made possible through the grant funding from our BCCBA award earlier this year. This is a clear connection to old-growth forest conservation by demanding effective protection of the life-history requirements of an umbrella species like black bears. Huge thanks to BCCBA for its foundational support of this initiative. It came at a critical time!”

The BC Conservation & Biodiversity Awards Foundation is a donor advised fund at Canada Gives, a registered charity and public foundation.
